A Gift w/ Words

So, it's becoming very apparent that Lily has my gift for language (or lack thereof, especially when it comes to music lyrics).

Imagine our three year old this morning, running around the house sans PJs, first screaming "no one wants to see a naked baby heiney!" and then singing, over and over (and over, and over, and over...you get the drift) again from the Jungle Book.

Here's how her song went:
It's just the pair of cessities
A simple pair of cessities
So forget about your worries and your stripes...

Here's how the song is INTENDED to be sung:
Look for the bare necessities
The simple bare necessities
Forget about your worries and your strife...

Oh well, she's definitely got her own sense of style, rhythm and rhyme. That's our Lily!

Battle of the Bulge

WARNING -- lots 'o skin to follow!

28 week belly when pregnant with Lily (above)....

...and my current 28 week belly with Goldilocks (in non-maternity PJs...they're my favs and I can't give them up just yet....pardon the stretch).

So, there you go. Proof is in the pudding. I'm definitely pregnant. Definitely having a baby. Have officially entered the third trimester and am definitely starting to count down to d-day. Amazingly, it won't be all that long at this point. Ready or not (definitely not), she's a comin!

Baby Belly

I've been terribly lax about taking photos of my belly this pregnancy (OK, so I haven't been doing it at all). I have shots of the "bulge" taken every few weeks during my pregnancy with Lily. Sadly, this child is already suffering from second child syndrome.

Noah happened to, however, snap this photo of me as we were hiking down from the Enchantment Resort vortex (never heard of a vortex? long story for another day!) on the day that marked week 24 of the pregnancy.

So, ladies and gentlemen, here's a photo of Goldie in the making. I'm bigger now, for sure. I'll try to get one over the weekend (Sunday marks week 28) if I can remember.

In the meantime, I'm happy to report that complications (knock on lots of wood) seem to have subsided. No bleeding since mid-December and the baby is plenty active. I'm not sure if I'll ever fully relax, since I'm just too high-strung for that, but it actually looks like we're going to have a baby in just a few more months!

Preview

If you've heard Lily talking about "her recital," (if you've been around her for more than two seconds lately, you've heard about the big event) you'd think that it was taking place next week. Wrong. So wrong. June 7th will mark the big day...but fear not, we'll be talking about it almost every day until then!

(Family Day at Perfect Pointe Dance Studio in December -- Lily with some of her partners in crime)

Because Lily had to miss two classes in a row, her teacher, Miss Kendra, emailed me the recital routine so that (excuse me while I die laughing) we can "practice it at home." So, for those of you who want a preview...

Imagine 10 little girls dressed up like yellow flowers, in TAP SHOES, and then read on --

Start on purple Xes, feet together, hands on hips.

1-16 Knee bounces w/ hands on hips
1-8 Heel dig R side w/ diagonal arms 12, step together as arms come in 34, same thing L 5-8.
1-8 Repeat heel digs
1-8 3 big shuffles R, step 7, hold 8
1-8 3 big shuffles L, step 7, hold 8
1-8 Mime making snow fall w/ fingers moving from over head and down front of body 1-4, make a big happy face w/ hands framing face 5-8
1-8 Wave hands side to side over head while shaking hips side to side

All of this is set to Tom Chapin's "Some Assembly Required."

Want to come??

End of an Era

This is a shot you'll never see again (the last one we have of Lily and her beloved appendage)...

I'm almost afraid to say this out loud for fear that our karma will somehow reverse itself, but Lily is now (at age 3) officially weaned from her paci.

Yes, she's been "sober" for 19 days and counting. She was a serious addict -- OK, perhaps I was just as addicted to the instant soothing calm of the pacifier as was Lily -- and I never thought we'd actually see the day. It'll be interesting to see what happens, if anything, once Goldilocks arrives home with one firmly planted between her gums. For now, though, Lily seems to have kicked the habit (I hear that there's a great deal of debate between Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner about whether or not to take away 2-year-old Violet's pacifiers...apparently a very hot topic these days!).

Is she sleeping well anymore? Um....ah.....well that's another story for another day. For now, we're celebrating this one victory, a major step for Noah and me!

Holiday Hiatus

With the intent of posting once a week, I realize that it has been over ONE MONTH since my last blog entry. Lest you think that nothing has happened in our "lives with Lily," I assure you that we've been so busy that I just haven't had time to blog.

Waiting for your viewing pleasure...on my digital camera...are Hanukkah photos, great shots of Lily's prized gingerbread house (or tree house if you ask her), and breathtaking pics from our holiday trip to Sedona/Grand Canyon/Scottsdale, AZ. If only I could now find the time to actually download them and then upload them.... I promise that it's at the top of my to do list!

As for Goldilocks, while I'm still holding my breath this pregnancy seems to have settled down. No "unexplained, abnormal bleeding during pregnancy" in a few weeks; Goldie is extremely active (loves to tap dance on my bladder!); and my stomach has officially "popped." (My work colleagues' reactions were fairly exaggerated when I came back to work yesterday, so I must be showing even more than I think!) I've passed the half-way point in the pregnancy. In fact, Sunday marks week 25 (in theory out of a 40 week pregnancy...but don't forget that Lily arrived on the scene at week 36). Yes, we're actually going to have another baby....ready or not!

Photos coming soon. I PROMISE! I also resolved that, in 2008, I will learn how to upload video to the blog so that you experience a tad bit of what we get to relish in every day. The good, the bad, the ugly and the hilarious.

In the meantime, a very Happy New Year. Hope your holiday season was a wonderful one, and all our best wishes for a fantastic year to come!
